The top destinations in the world for travel are usually expensive, crowded and are less interesting than some of the hidden gems we will feature in this Top 10 list of the cheapest places to travel to, especially if you are broke, young and like to take on some adventure.

If you live in the United States, keep in mind, the dollar is still valued highly and you will get major discounts simply by exploiting the exchange rates. 10. Albania

This is the most forgotten piece of Europe. While most European vacations hit up Rome, Paris and London, the country of Albania will offer much more including fantastic beaches along the Mediterranean, excellent food and culture and accommodations that are 80% cheaper than the rest of Europe. You can even find accommodations for as little as $5 a night, for those looking for an ultra-cheap vacation. Tours are also well below the usual costs in Europe with historic tours and boat tours priced between $2 to $10. Albania is one of those hidden gems that will be exploding soon, so it is best to come see the natural beauty and culture while it is still super cheap.

9. Mozambique

If you are looking to visit Africa on the cheap, look no further than the country of Mozambique. Here you can find hotel rooms for as little as $20 a night, right along side an azure-colored ocean. Food is extremely cheap and so is getting around. There is excellent scuba diving opportunities and kite surfing adventures. And don't worry, if you are looking for an African safari tour - Mozambique offers one day road trips to see the local wild-life including Elephants, Lions and much more.

8. Vietnam

Vietnam offers affordable accommodations, excellent, healthy foods and a country-side filled with amazing landscape and friendly people. There are endless activities and adventures in Vietnam: Eat your way through historic Hanoi, kayak in the emerald waters of Halong Bay or relax in ancient Hoi An and the nearby beaches; enjoy a two day cruise aboard a junk on Ha Long bay with delicious meals cooked on board, with diving and kayaking into mysterious secret caves; set out on a 13 day bicycle tour across the famous Ho Chi Minh trail, through complex system of roads along the Trueng Son Range; take a six day trek from Sapa through the mountains to Hoang Lien National Park, visiting hillside villages and camping near rivers and swim under endless waterfalls.

7. Las Vegas

If you aren't into gambling and slots, Vegas can be an extremely cheap vacation destinations. Accommodations can run between $24 to $100 a night but there are a lot of free things to do in Las Vegas and getting there is usually super cheap. Use the inexpensive flight to visit areas around Las Vegas such as The Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Gold Strike Canyon Hot Springs and the deserts of Nevada.

Similar to Mexico, it offers a great exchange rates, great food, great beaches and a romantic vibe. Accommodations range from $80-100 for a 4-star hotel and there are various other options including beach hut rentals for about $40 per night. Belize is safe and offers many unique tours for the adventurist type. Look for hotels with free shuttles, bicycle rentals and tours to save a little more.

5. Canada

If you are travelling from the US or Europe, the current exchange rate is favorable for a trip to Canada but be warned: Canada is a huge country, the second largest in the world and there are some amazing destinations to choose from. You will most likely want to check out the Canadian Rocky Mountains in both Alberta and British Columbia. There you will find unspoiled scenery, world-class skiing and adventure beyond compare. Likewise, the Eastern provinces offer great scenery, culture and a more laid back feeling. Accommodations and restaurants are priced similar to the United States, but with the favorable exchange rate you will save about 20% overall.

4. Morocco

Morocco is the cheapest African country you can visit that will immerse you in culture and traditions. The trick here is to book your flight from a popular European destination such as Lisbon, Madrid or Paris. Roadtrip flights from these destinations into Morocco can be as low as $50 to $100. We'd suggest visiting Portugal or Spain as they are relatively inexpensive places to visit, and then flying on to Morocco to extend your vacation. You can sometimes get amazing flights from New York City to Morocco for as little as $200 one-way. The food in Morocco is excellent and ranges from $1.50 to $12 per meal. For vegetarians and vegans, the country is especially great, as veggies are cheaper than meat and fresh fruit smoothies are under $1. Accommodations range from $30 to $200 for ultra-luxury.

3. Costa Rica  

Costa Rica is becoming very touristy, so the time to explore is now. Costa Rica is the one of the most biodiverse places on earth and to be able to see this on a shoestring is an incredible opportunity. There's a ton of national parks to explore that are either free or have an entrance fee of a couple dollars. Once there, you can then enjoy free self-guided walks that won't cost you a cent, but will deliver some amazing encounters with amazing wildlife like tapirs, monkeys, sloths and macaws. Getting around the country is super-easy as buses range from a few pennies to $10 across the entire country - allowing you to see more for a lot less. Accommodations range from $30 to $100 a night for a 4 star beach resort, but there are other options with less amenities for $7 a night - right on the beach! If you want to sample local foods a typical meal will be about $2-4.

2. Ecuador

Ecuador is an easy country to explore with many budget airlines flying in from destinations such as Florida and Texas. There are many things to do in Ecuador such as taking up surfing in beach towns like Montanita, to hiking the volcanic Banos with famed hot springs at the gateway to the Amazon basin, to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cuenca in the high Andes, there’s a lot to see. Accommodations are usually $30-90 for a 4-star hotel with some accommodations going as low as $6 a night. Food is extremely inexpensive and if you shop local you can get an entire weeks meal plan for as low as $10. Transportation on buses is also extremely cheap and getting around is easy.

1. Georgia

No, not the state - the country. This ancient European country has a lot to offer from beautiful scenery, unique culture and tradition to exceptional food and drink. After-all, it is the birthplace of wine. Georgia, a land of rock and stone, medieval fortresses and monasteries, green hills, majestic mountains, deep caves and rocky beaches offers the visitor exceptional hospitality and value. The exchange rate will entice you to enjoy much more, but the prices for things like food, wine and entertainment will leave you speechless. A high-end meal, with unlimited wine and entertainment will not top $15. Accommodations can be as low as $20 a night to spend in an ancient castle. If you want unique, unspoiled and a taste of the past, Georgia will not disappoint.
